Our artist residency provides a unique sanctuary where creativity and nature come together in profound dialogue. At the heart of this initiative lies the ‘Casa de Creación,’ an inspiring art space and studio designed for artists seeking to deepen their practice while immersing themselves in the rich natural diversity and ancestral wisdom of our region. This space serves not only as a workshop for artistic exploration but also as a haven for rejuvenation, inspiration, and meaningful connection with the environment.

The residency fosters a dynamic exchange between artists, the local community, and indigenous traditions, cultivating a collaborative and enriching experience. Programs range from 1 to 4 weeks, with rolling applications accepted year-round.

We offer weekly stays that blend comfort, inspiration, and thoughtfully designed spaces for creative expression. Each artist-in-residence is provided with eco-friendly accommodations and spacious work areas tailored for large-scale projects. Residents gain access to resources including a ceramics workshop, collaborative opportunities (workshops with local artisans), team support, and connections that foster meaningful artistic and cultural exchanges.

  • This program welcomes multidisciplinary artists, nature researchers, and creative professionals seeking to explore the intersection of art, nature, and ancestral wisdom. It’s an ideal opportunity for those inspired by indigenous cultures and the unique landscape of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

  • Residents are responsible for covering weekly fee, transportation, food, and personal/artistic materials. Applications are accepted year-round for stays ranging from 1 to 4 weeks. Optional daily meals are available for an additional cost.

  • Nestled on a 3 hectare property in front of the Caribbean Sea, the residency is shared with our sister wellness project, Gitana del Mar Beach Retreat. A wild jungle beach is just a 2-minute walk away, and a 45-minute beach walk leads to the mouth of the stunning Buritaca River. This unique location merges the vastness of the ocean with the exuberant rainforest jungles and mountains of the Sierra, sparking deep creative inspiration.

  • Residents are guided by a dedicated team member who facilitates introductions to local artists, artisans, and cultural leaders. They also provide access to natural materials and share insights on sacred sites and indigenous communities. Weekly check-ins ensure residents receive the support they need throughout their stay.

  • At the conclusion of the residency, artists may opt to exhibit their work or present their project to the community. Upon request, our team can assist in organizing professional photography documentation, exhibitions, workshops, or events.

  • To enrich your creative process, we offer workshops in ceramics, weaving, and other art forms led by local artists and indigenous artisans. Through Gitana del Mar, we can also arrange hikes, cultural visits, and explorations of nearby natural parks, like Tayrona National Park. These experiences are available for an additional fee.

  • Reciprocity is at the heart of our vision. We invite and encourage artists to give back to the territory and community during their stay—whether through a workshop, community mural, talk, studio visit, or other activity. This exchange honors the balance between giving and receiving, deepening the connection between your practice and the land that inspires it.

  • The cost for a 1-week residency is $750 USD (Food NOT included, Meal Plans Available). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and should include:

    • Contact information

    • Links to your social media handle, portfolio or website

    • A detailed work proposal for the residency

    • Ideas and/or proposal for reciprocity “giving back” project to our local community

    • Two professional references

Art Space / Studio Workshop

At the heart of the residency is the Casa de Creacion, a 1,200 m² studio/workshop designed by Nido Arquitectura. Built with bamboo, adobe bricks, and artisanal palm weavings, it pays homage to the natural materials and traditions of the Sierra Nevada. The space is equipped with lighting,  work tables, easels, electric pottery wheel, weaving loom, ceramic kiln, library, and Wi-Fi, providing artists with immense creative freedom.

Residents enjoy a luxurious glamping experience surrounded by lush jungle vegetation. The Glamper tent includes a king-size bed, fully equipped kitchen, eco-friendly outdoor bathroom, a terrace with a hammock, and a lounge area—offering a serene retreat designed to harmonize the soul with nature.

  • We are developing partnerships with institutions, art grants, and galleries to support artists in residence at LSAR’s Casa de Creación. If you already have financial backing and wish to collaborate, we can create a custom agreement tailored to your project. Email us at info@lasierraartistresidency.org for more details.

  • In support of indigenous artists worldwide, we are developing an annual sponsorship program to welcome them to LSAR’s Casa de Creación. The first call for applications will be announced in mid-2025.

  • Our Art Space is also available for events, workshops, and retreats aligned with our vision. For special requests, contact us at info@lasierraartistresidency.org.
